Description

Hi everyone,

This is the third of a 'Childhood' trilogy that I've been working on called 'Imagine, Wonder and Magic'.

I created the background image of the fairy village (Faerieholme) a couple of years ago - I tried to create a fantasy forest by selecting aspects of 50 or so forest shots that I took - a tree here, moss there etc, and build up tons of layers (68!) to create something new. The buildings are the same stump from three angles, for example. Anyway, I always felt like it lacked something.

I've been wracking my brains trying to find a way to finish my trilogy, knowing it was a little girl and her dog (and her bike ) but not really sure how to get there - and this is what emerged over the last few days. One found the other! The bike, dog and girl are seperate manips from sxc.hu (will post a montage strip when I get a chance), and there is a huge amount of painting and lighting around them. Other watchful presences were also painted.
Anyway, thanks for looking, it has been a cool experiment creating these images, trying to capture something of the magic of childhood.

Cheers

Phil

I love that figure in the background. I agree with JeffMD though about the contrast.

Fantastic work in the foreground and middle ground (thirded on the need for more background contrast). You've done an awesome job of creating a magical atmosphere and sense of wonder! I'd love to visit this particular fantastic forest.

Absolutely lovely work! Very magical and believeable. I think the trees in the back could be darker, though, the contrast is a bit too distracting. Still a gorgeous piece. ^__^

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys, I really appreciate it. I agree with all of you who commented on the contrast, it was niggling at me too! Here's an ammended version.

the idea is cool, but the bg... it doesn't like, fit the place where the girl is standing, you should change colors and levels of it, or try match color.

Great manip, I love it ! But I have some minor crits, hope you don't mind. From the foreground, I understand it's a night scene, but the background is too bright for that; try darkening it a bit, without destroying the details, see how it looks... The other thing is the lighting on the girl, the highlights should be yellow, same as the light coming from the trees (try using screen mode instead of color dodge ;) ).

Thanks Ira, I don't know if you noticed my post about 5 up, I amended the background a fair bit - I think the blend works a lot better. As for the light on the girl...the highlights look yellow/gold on my monitor...! ;)

Thanks again

The ammended version looks better.

The lightning on her left arm sorta bugs me, but I still love it.

Great job.

great work!

really magical

I think the background is pushed back a bit too far, we now have a too
much seperated fore- and background

The overall concept is really nice and very moody
