Description

Hi everyone,

This is a follow-up image to this

Fathom by  PMD

The technical aspects are pretty much the same, apart from lighting and colour (from above thread)

"The city itself started out as a series of cubes which I began replicating and assembling into different forms - hence the blocky architecture. The ships and city were modelled in Maya, with the whole thing rendered in Bryce.

I rendered out this scene in 4 material layers (Flat, Lined, Reflective, Lights) and blended in Photoshop. Some minor light dodging and colour correction."

Thanks for looking and take care,

Phil

I love the city below. The colors are pleasant to the eye. What's missing in my opinion is a bit of movement; maybe a more dynamic perspective would fit better ?
+9/10

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Ira. I'm not sure about a more dynamic perspective - I wanted the image to appear quite still, like the ships were drifting slowly over this gigantic cityscape. I would love to animate a big dramatic plunge downward into the city but the render times have been horrendous! Thanks again.

Nice shot man. :)
I love the perspective and the complexity.

The only crit i would like to give is to uncheck gamma correction and/or using much less ambience on the materials. As it is now, it looks a lot like an underwater scene. You should take advantage of shadows and contrast, and add a little blackness in the darker areas. It would really add to this scene and make it look even better. :)

Thanks for the crit, Rochr - its much appreciated. I love when a commment can make you look at your own image in a totally different way - it DOES look like its underwater now that you mention it ;) Its a good point about the gamma and the contrast - will certainly take a look at that. Thanks again.

The city looks a lot more real than in the first Fathom.

I love this, really gives me a feeling of flying when I look at it, like I'm afraid to fall.

I think this is much better than the first one, the starships are better and can be apreciated more easely
